What exactly is a man in cave you may ask? The cave is the place where men go to when they have had enough of being in the world at that moment. It may last for a few minutes, a few hours, or sometimes a few days. Many things cause a man to need his cave, perhaps a modern word for it may be shed, office, bathroom.... You get the idea. It is whatever you like to call the place that you or the male in your life goes to when they need time to themselves. It may simply be sitting and reading the paper. Uninterrupted.
One of the most important things for both sexes to understand is - man in cave, leave in cave. Why, you ask? Over the centuries we have evolved enormously emotionally as well as physically. We have had industrial revolutions, peace movements, women's movements, but I have yet to see a mans movement, and no, I don't mean that disrespectfully. Women have learned, because we are talkers, how to defuse our stress and anxiety by talking. To anyone. Partners, Mothers, sisters, girlfriends, the shopkeeper, the butcher, our kids, the dog. You get the picture.

Men on the other hand, are generally not emotional talkers. Any talking that they do is usually to pacify the women in their lives. Be aware that there are exceptions to this. The comments I am making are generalized, not specific. As the stress mounts in his life, he is more than likely to become more withdrawn from those around him (entering the cave). He does this because he is trying to find a solution to what is bothering him or causing the conflict in his life.
Women think by taking, men thing by being.
Women need to understand that when a man is in his cave, he is not ignoring her; she does not need to take it personally. Give him some space. Understand that he is doing what he can to cope with stress in his life. Men on the other hand, need to understand that a woman feels valued when she is truly listened to by her partner. Talking is as important as breathing to her. It is a vital way of dealing with her stress. As you can see, these reactions seem as opposite to each other as male and female. We can, however, by respecting and understanding some of the gender differences help support and nurture our relationship with each other.
