The Man Cave Or a Hunter's Retreat

Do you live with an outdoorsman or a man who enjoys his outdoor living? Well if you do, then they probably have their own room that is their sanctuary away from all the women folk and those guys that would rather get a manicure than skin a deer.

cave

So you have a room in your house with animal heads hanging on the wall or fish mounted for display, and some junky old furniture for him and his buddies to sit on while they watch sports and talk about their next hunting trip. Or could it possibly be worse and they invade your sitting or living room? If you hunter doesn't have a man cave it is easy to transform a den into his personal retreat.

Cave

This can be done very easily especially if hunting and fishing is his game. Check with the local furniture stores and see what they have to offer in rustic furniture. For a while, furniture with the "Texas" Star could be found any where, but now they just call it rustic. Find him some coffee tables and end tables and you can probably even get a gun display cabinet or a gun cabinet for his cave.

If rustic doesn't work, you can get recliners that look like camouflage these days and or dark browns and greens. A nice leather couch that is easy to clean or wipe down and some manly lamps, set just right so that they can watch the latest game on a big screen television. No man cave is complete without one of these items.

Area rugs come with all kinds of wildlife pictures and designs on them these days. If he has hunting dogs, there are rugs with retrievers proudly displayed or if you want wild animals there are rugs with wolves and elk and deer on them. Throw one of those down in front of the sofa, and put his trophies on the walls and you have made an almost perfect man cave for you hunter.

Now if you don't have any rooms available in the house, there is always a workshop that can be updated and added to or maybe you can even close in part of the garage. Either way, your man or hunter will be proud that you took the time to make him his own retreat where he can proudly display his accomplishments.

The last thing needed to make the man cave complete is a mini fridge and a small microwave. This is to hold the beverages of choice for him and his buddies and the microwave to make popcorn for the game.

You man will be pleased and you will have your living room or sitting room back and there won't be any animals staring at you any longer. The only problem left would be to get him out of the man cave for a cleaning at least once a month or so, otherwise you might have critters living in there with them.

3 Reasons Fish Oil Is Better Than Flax Seed Oil

Fish oil and flaxseed oil promise to provide a multitude health benefits to anyone who takes it regularly. Both are excellent sources of good omega-3 fatty acids. But which is better than which? Not all of us have the luxury of time and finances to try and test both and see which one is best to take. So here is a piece of advice put bluntly: fish oil is a better investment for health than flaxseed. Here are three reasons why fish oil is still superior to flaxseed oil.

alarm clocks for heavy sleepers

1. Flaxseed contains high levels of ALA, but the other one active ingredients are EPA and DHA.

Ala

Flaxseed primarily contains the omega-3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA is not readily absorbable by the body. When consumed, it enters the body, gets desaturated, and acted upon by enzymes which convert ALA to EPA and then to DHA. The conversion is only partial, and it has been found that ALA in flaxseed is poorly changed to EPA, and conversion to DHA is virtually zero. so the real active EPA and DHA you get is only a fraction of the original dose you started with. Of all the omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA are the ones that directly provide health benefits, while the other one directly provides you what your body needs.

2. Claims about flaxseed oil are unsubstantiated.

Sure, there are reports on the benefits of flaxseed, but these product claims are still unsubstantiated. There has not been any placebo-controlled, definitive clinical study that proves the effectiveness of this in giving health benefits. Omega-3 fatty acids indeed offer health benefits of different sorts, but it has only been fish oil that is proven to work, thanks to hundreds of clinical studies conducted and continuously being performed.

3. Flaxseed oil may be carcinogenic.

Flaxseed oil is said to promote healthier cardiovascular function, lower blood pressure and improve skin texture. However, flaxseed oil reportedly brings about unwanted side effects - from simple allergic reactions to stomach upset and flatulence, to increased risk for breast cancer.

This is not to say that fish oil is free from unwanted side effects. Depending on where the fish was sourced from, contamination with mercury and other toxins may be present in the fish. This is the reason why consumption of high amounts of fish is highly discouraged. The better option is to go for high quality ultra-refined fish oil supplements instead. These supplements contain the purest form of omega-3 in high, potent amounts to ensure results.

You don't have to get confused which to choose. It still reigns supreme when it comes to omega-3 supplements. So choose your way to health today - take your daily dose of it and enjoy all the health benefits only omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA can provide.

Florida's East Coast Surfing Beaches Offer Plenty of Chances to Catch Some Waves

The Bahama Island chain blocks most of the big offshore swells that hit Florida's southern coast making the best surfing beaches beginning in Vero Beach and moving north from there. Sebastian Inlet is the most popular surfing hotspot in the state, hosting many surfing tournaments every year. The Sebastian Inlet Pro, Volcom-Seacow Surf Contest, Quicksilver Skins and many other smaller contest.

esata flash drive

Sebastian Inlet is a unique surfing spot with two popular locations where surf riders catch waves. The North Jetty is the most popular, surfers have a short paddle to the best waves on the east coast. Monster Hole, south of the inlet and about 3/4 mile off the beach is the place where head high swells take longboarders for a long ride, but it's a pretty good paddle out to the breaking waves so usually only locals attempt the paddle. Most of the locals come in from the south and paddle for about 1/4 mile out to the break, sometimes they just jump off the south jetty depending on the swell direction. Others use a boat to take surfers out to the break, tow in surfing from Personal Watercraft are also found riding the monster waves.

Cocoa Beach is called the "Small Wave World Capital" and features some of the best summertime surfing in Florida with an eastern facing beach. One of the more popular surfing spots is the Cocoa Beach Pier, a man-made surf break builder, the pier is also a popular party spot and has hosted the Beach Boys in concert.

Cocoa Beach is also home to many Tournaments such as the PBR Pro Surf Contest, NCFL Maui Mix, the ESA Surf Contest, NKF Surfing Tourney, King of Peak, Kelly Slater and Brothers Invitational, the Easter Bash plus many other smaller annual surf contest.

If you want to learn to surf or take advanced surfing lessons Cocoa Beach may be the best spot. The Space Coast is home to many of the worlds top surfers such as Kelly Slater and the Hobgood brothers, many lesser known surfing pros are from here also and offer instructional training.

Just a little north of Cocoa Beach is Cape Canaveral. Cape Canaveral's coastline is kinda bay like and is popular with those learning to surf and at times when the waves are too big for surfing the beaches of Cocoa Beach.

New Smyrna Beach is also popular with local surfers. The northeast facing beach is best in the fall or whenever the wind blows out of the northeast.

Daytona Beach is possibly the most unique surfing spot on the east coast for one simple reason, you can drive right on the beach. The coastline faces northeast and is popular during northeast swells, but the real advantage is from the ability to drive on the beach, surfers are more mobile and can drive along the beach until they find the best break, as tides and the bottom changes. There are also a couple piers that offer a challenging break during peak conditions.

St Augustine is in a unique position, the beach there faces east, to the south the beach faces a little to the south and the north side faces a little more north, offering a little variety of opportunities as the swells change. St. Augustine also has a narrow pier the locals are always shooting through. Of course this is very dangerous, and very popular.

Jacksonville Beach is the northernmost spot on our tour, the beaches there are also popular with surfers with an eastern facing beach. The Jacksonville Pier also offers a good break.

Setting Up Your Man Cave Without Breaking the Bank

In today's economy where people are hurting for cash, it is essential to save as much money as possible. One of the best ways to save money and still have some fun is to create a Man Cave. If you are unfamiliar with the term, I can explain. In essence, it is a room, or area where a man can keep all of his favorite things and entertain his friends. Big screen TVs, sports memorabilia and game tables are a perfect fit for the Man Cave aesthetic. This is also an area where a man's friends can relax when they visit to socialize, or watch a sporting event.

caveman costume

If you think about it, a Man Cave might be expensive in terms of up front cost, but it could save you thousands in the long run. Consider that when you go out to the bar, you'll probably end up buying a few beers. For the sake of argument, let's say you have three beers at the bar. That'll run you (easily after tax and tip). If you invited your friends over instead, you could spend on a six pack of decent beer and even have some left overs for next time. This is just one example of how you can save you money in the long run.

Cave

A Man Cave would not be complete without some form of entertainment. Some of the standard items that you should consider are a computer and television for watching sports games and highlights. Additionally, a home bar is always a nice touch. Other items that can be added to increase entertainment are dart boards and game tables. These items allow multiple people to enjoy different types of entertainment at the same time. Having all these other activities at the ready is really helpful if the game gets called and you and the guys are stuck with nothing to watch.

Although a Man Cave is ultimately designed for relaxing and entertaining friends, it must still be decorated properly. One of the best places to get the latest and greatest decor is at a sports fan shop. Typically, sports fan shops will have all kinds of different items that can be used to decorate a Man Cave. These types of shops typically have items that are more unique than those found at department stores.

If the proprietor of a Man Cave is a true sports fan, there is no excuse for not having sports memorabilia on the walls. There are many autograph shows that occur every year across the country. These shows are great ways to obtain inexpensive genuine autographed merchandise that will match the sports decor already established within a Man Cave. Similarly, there are some reputable sports retailers online where autographed memorabilia can often be purchased relatively inexpensively.

Sometimes when a game gets intense in a Man Cave, there may be a chance of damage and destruction. For this reason, it is very important to make sure that all valuable memorabilia is safely secured to either a shelf or the wall. This precaution will pay off eventually if your team wins a game in overtime and things get rowdy.

For the same reason, all Man Cave furniture should be purchased either used or at a scratch or dent section of your local furniture retailer. There is no sense in purchasing a thousand dollar sofa only to have beer stains all over the couch within a month. For local retail stores, January is usually the best time of year to find furniture at deep discounts. Craigslist.com and Freecycle.org are other resources that can prove to be invaluable to your search for used furniture.

Another item you should seriously consider putting in your Man Cave is a mini refrigerator. Again, you can usually find used mini fridges for a bargain on Craigslist and Freecycle. Additionally, if you live in a college town, you can find them listed in the local paper at the end of the semester. If a mini fridge is too much of an investment, you could always go with the low cost option of a good old cooler and some ice.

Following all these suggestions will lead to the creation of both an entertaining and inexpensive Man Cave. Remember, it is not necessary to purchase all of these items at once. Creating the perfect Man Cave is a process that may take up to two years to complete.

Exploring Russell Cave National Monument

Located about thirty miles north of Scottsboro is Alabama's only National Monument, Russell Cave. Archeologists have documented the cave's use as a shelter for prehistoric people as far back as 10,000 years. Russell Cave allows visitors the opportunity to learn about the life ways of these people as well as do a little cave exploration.

cavenders seasoning

Native Americans used Russell Cave to shelter them from the elements. The cave opening faces east, away from the cold winds of winter. The surrounding area provided plenty of game to hunt and a good nearby water source. The abundance of deer, black bear, wild turkey, squirrel, and fish from nearby streams gave the inhabitants plenty to eat. Various styles of arrows and spear points found in the cave indicate it was used by different bands of people. Some groups of people may have used the cave for shelter for prolonged periods of time. Others may have used it as a seasonal hunting shelter. Archeologists have found 24 burial sites in the cave, ranging from infants to adults.

Cave

Initial excavations in Russell Cave were done in 1953 by members of the Tennessee Archeological Society. A tract of land containing the cave was purchased from a private owner in 1956 by the National Geographic Society. They funded an excavation by the Smithsonian Institute from 1956-58. In 1958 the National Geographic Society donated the land to the American people, and in 1961 President Kennedy established Russell Cave National Monument.

The Visitor Center has a museum containing artifacts from the excavations. They include weapons, jewelry, pottery, and tools from the prehistoric people who used the cave as a shelter. The Visitor Center also shows videos about the park and its early inhabitants. Also showing currently is Ken Burns' new film The National Parks: America's Best Idea.

Tours of the cave are led by National Park Service Interpretive Rangers. They also offer special programs throughout the year. On September 18 they will present "Slithery Sliders", a program which teaches visitors to identify venomous and non-venomous snakes native to the area. A Native American festival is held at the park each spring.

Russell Cave National Monument is open year round from 8:30am to 4:30pm. There is no entrance fee. Picnic areas are available in the park. When visiting Scottsboro, Alabama, plan a day trip to nearby Russell Cave.

4 Danger Signs That There is Aluminum Wiring in Your Home

Electricity is dangerous! This has always been an explicit warning to all households anywhere in the globe. And just recently, according to the United States Fire Administration, and we quote, "home electrical problems account for 67, 800 fires, 485 deaths, and 8 million of property loses a year," unquote. And one of the causes of all of these has always been a faulty NJ aluminum wiring.

esata hub

Just a little background, aluminum was found to be a good conductor of electricity and it was installed in many homes that were just built during the years of 1965-1973. It was cheaper than copper at that time since there was a high rate of the use of copper by the military during the Vietnam War. And this incident made it hard to use copper because it became very expensive. A lot of newly built houses had been installed by aluminum wire before it was finally discovered to be an actually fire hazard material. This is because aluminum contracts and expands whenever current passes through it. The connections will then become loose depending on the current that will pass through it.

Esa

It has to be noted that any NJ wiring that will be done in your home or any establishment should be done by a professional master electrician only who is most familiar with all of the most common hazards. This is because it would take years to master skills like electrical system installation, maintenance and problem solving matters. That is why it advised that everyone should trust only those who have years of experience and expertise to back them up. People who are skilled and licensed should do these complex tasks so that proper care and maintenance will be done to your home and office wiring jobs.

And to avoid these hazards and possible accidents in your homes and offices, it will be wise to be informed of the possible dangers that a faulty NJ aluminum wiring possesses. Basically there are Four signs considered dangerous that we must be sensitive enough to see right away and do something about. They are:

1. Whenever you smell hot plastic from insulation. This will definitely be a cause for alarm.
2. When you feel that the cover plates on your wiring are hot. When the wire gets loose from under any of its terminal screws and at receptacles connections because of expansion and the contraction of the wire, this will be more vulnerable to overheating.
3. When you see switches or receptacles that are already discoloring. Damaged or even crimped wire can cause the heat to build up also and will eventually lead to a possible fire accident.
4. When you notice flickering lights.

Upon noticing these signs at home, your best line of defense is to contact and consult a qualified and professional NJ electrician who will expertly check the place and will do the needed things to be done. Doing it on your own will pose possible risks that you don't need to experience anymore.

One of the best solutions you can have with this situation is to have copper wiring replacement or rewiring. This is becoming more common and sensible now-a-days. You can also opt to upgrade or retreat all of your home's receptacles, switches, light fixtures, and junction points. And of course, these technical works should only be done by an authorized electrical conductor, as ESA recommended.

It is also wise to remember that when dealing with aluminum wiring in your house or establishment, it is not the wiring itself that would make things dangerous, it is the wiring connections. The risks mentioned above can be just some of the possible that would produce accidents that will put the lives of your family in danger once the tasks are not properly addressed to by licensed and trained NJ electrician.

How to Design Your Man Cave

Men have needs when it comes to their own space, and the Man Cave is the perfect getaway. For years he has had to endure the constant neglect to his needs for this necessary sanctuary from the cubs and the female of his species.

cave

The constant struggles of putting up his feet up and having to deal with fufu curtains, doilies and coasters are now giving way to flat panel TV's surround sound theater systems and mini-beer systems. No longer is the male tied to the lone family room armchair where his domain was shared with others and the battle for the remote was an ongoing struggle.

Cave

The nature and design of the Man Cave should be one of peace and harmony for the senses. Each component should be selected to ensure that it meets the complete vision and needs of the Male who will reside there.

First, a flat screen TV is in order for visual and auditory stimulation. The size and quality of picture should be created so that the viewer can see, hear and feel the bone crushing action as though they were on the field with the rest of their favorite team.

A sound system to match the images emanating from the wall unit is also an important part of your design. Depending on your configuration, wireless speakers are the best solution for their flexibility and should be strategically located for maximum effect. Each play should be felt and to help the viewer experience every tackle or touchdown with utmost reality.

Last but not least, will be your liquid refreshment appliance. A mini-beer system that will provide instant access to cold beverages for immediate satisfaction will be needed. Your beer fridge should be able to handle the "perfect pour" each and every time it is called to perform.

Once all the pieces are in place, your man cave will be the perfect place to get away from the cartoons and cooking shows and will certainly be used many times. Your home away from home is now ready to be enjoyed with family and friends.

Cave Paintings - Where It All Started

Look at a cave painting- beasts in profile, perhaps a hunt- painted with pigments from the earth mixed with the fat of the animals it portrays. I see remnants of another era. I see a mural painted by people like you and I- more so than we might want to believe. As you look, feel the experience of this painting. Can't you see the light from the fire flickering? Smell the cave. Close your eyes and feel the damp air around you? You are in a cave, painting on the walls the essence of the daily lives of you and your community. Imagine it.

caveman club

Imagine what it would be like to live in 15,000 B.C.E. This is long before any of the comforts we know has even remotely been thought of. This is long before transportation and communication was even possible, save for between your immediate surroundings. It's long before supermarkets and specialists- so you have to make your own clothes, catch and prepare your own food- with a limited diet, and completely take care of yourself, without dentists, doctors, or anybody else because you barely even understand your own body and how it works. Your life expectancy is about thirty, you will die of a common cold- if you survive through the winter at all, and danger lurks around every corner. How does it feel?

Cave

The Hall of the Bulls

These paintings are prehistoric, meaning they were painted before human history. That is- before history could have been kept- long before in fact. One particular cave painting was found in Lascaux, France, in 1940, and is called the Rotunda, or Hall of the Bulls. It is placed about ten feet above floor level and depicts a procession of horses and bulls. It is part of a group of paintings of Upper Paleolithic art found in French caves and is some of the earliest examples of art in history. Some other caves, however, have been found with paintings which date back some 25,000 years.

The Lascaux caves are currently off limits to the public, following a restoration period which is now under observation. Some 2,000 images were found to decorate the walls of the caves, many of which are deteriorating, or difficult to discern. Of the images that are easily recognizable, over 900 are made out to be animals, with 600 having been identified. Of these animals, the majority are horses, then stags, cattle and bison. Several images are of a cat, a bird, a bear, a rhinoceros, and a human.

What do these paintings tell us? First and foremost we see a dominant animal theme. We can clearly see the importance of the animals to prehistoric man. This was before animals were domesticated for agriculture, meat, or pets, which means all animals were wild in the eyes of our cave friends. Beasts were both prey and predator.

Sounds pretty scary doesn't it? Nonetheless, animals were an important part in the preserving of their lives. A successful hunt meant the difference between thriving and living through the winter and an end to their existence. With a limited diet of fish, nuts, berries, and meat, they could use all the food they could get, and they couldn't take a ride to the supermarket to get it. There lives were in their own hands. On the other hand, the landscape was nowhere near a safe place to venture in terms of animal threats. Larger and more ferocious animals lurked around and hunted you. They had to eat too.

So it's no surprise that we see animals taking center stage in cave art, having so much importance. A lack of animals meant a lack of meat, and an overabundance of predator beasts such as tigers meant impending danger. The animals painted on the walls are not glorified, rather painted realistically from nature. The vary in size, from small, almost pictograph representations to extremely large, namely the seventeen foot long bull in the Hall of the Bulls- the largest animal discovered in cave art. The beasts were always in profile, and usually in motion.

Who Were The Painters?

Archaeologists have used everything they could from around the caves as clues for understanding the lives of these people. They conjecture that these folk didn't actually live inside these caves, but rather in shelters just in and around the cave openings. To be able to paint on the cave walls, they used lamps made from plant materials and animal fat. They used paints made from pigment mixed with animal fat, usually combined in small cups or with flat stones. The colors were mostly red and black, but sometimes yellow, maroon, and violet. Pigments were found naturally such as iron oxide for red, ocher for brown and yellow, and chalk for white as well as for lightening colors. Black was derived from manganese.

It's hard to say exactly what was going on in their lives judging simply from the artwork. Many of the symbols found on the walls remain enigmatic. For instance, hand prints have been found which lack one or more fingers. Some historians believe this could have been some kind of hunter's code. Others think the fingers could have been removed in some sort of primitive religious ritual. Other symbols are hard to make head or tails of, including basic shapes often filled in, arrangements of dots, arrows and bars. Could these symbols be just for decoration? At this point it is almost impossible to say.

What can be said, however, is that these prehistoric artists were crafty. Besides simply painting, they were sculptors as well as engravers. Some paintings show reliefs of figures, in whole or in part. Eyes and muzzles were sometimes cut into the wall before paint was applied. In some instances natural bumps and grooves from the stone were taken advantage of to portray parts of the animals and other figures.

The actual painting was accomplished mostly by using hands- fingers to trace thick lines. But besides their hands, some sorts of makeshift primitive paintbrushes were used from branches, twigs, and even bristles of hair or animal fur. These early artists used color contrast, shading, cross hatching, and varied line thickness to portray their subjects with an amazing accuracy. Primitive as they were, talentless they were not.

It goes without saying that we can't pinpoint who the individual artists must have been. Writing was not invented for tens of thousands of years so the painter could hardly leave his or her signature. Interestingly, though, specialists have noticed certain styles among the caves and how they have evolved. The styles range from three different periods- the first being a crude portrayal of animals, barely formed and hardly realistic looking. The second is a bit more evolved, showing more recognizable animals with rounded bellies, snouts, muzzles, eyes and horns, yet the legs remained crude. The third stage shows animals which can be identified by species, and whose movement has been portrayed. At this stage, art was becoming much more realistic. The Lascaux cave paintings, seen above, belong to this period.

It's interesting to wonder who the actual artists were who created these cave masterpieces. Was there a single artist responsible or did the community contribute? Could the whole theme of showing the hunt be the result of a holy man or religious figure praying for success? Since people are found to have not lived in these caves, were they used for special rituals or ceremonies, which the paintings are meant to complement?

No one can say for sure, only hypothesize and take educated guesses. But we can say these cave people's lives are fascinating. Before society as whole began to take care of itself and make leaps and bounds in science and technology to make life easier, these people were etching an existence on their own, with only the help of nature, which is often cruel and unforgiving. Their art gives a glimpse of who they were, yet leave us to question what they were thinking. What we know is they were early Man, some of the first thinking humans, whose slow and steady evolution brought us where we are today. We can thank them for not letting the elements, the odds, and Mother Nature get the best of them. Otherwise we wouldn't have anything, let alone art. But this where art began, the whole shebang started right there in those dark caverns. If they could only see where it's gotten to. While we ponder at abstract paintings, minimalism, hyperrealism, and any other new form of expression, just remember one thing-

Let's not forget where we came from.

Sagada's Sumaging Cave

Sagada is one of the better tourist destinations in northern Philippines, located about 275 kilometers north of Manila. It is one of 10 towns of Mountain Province, a part of the Philippines' Cordillera Region. Among other things, Sagada is known for its limestone caves. In fact, the favorite tourist attraction in Sagada based on online surveys is the Sumaging Cave, aptly nicknamed as the Big Cave.

cavenders seasoning

Sumaging Cave is one of the many caves that form a network underneath Sagada. To visit the Sumaging Cave, a tourist or tourist groups need to register at the municipal registration center. The fee is P10 per person; roughly equivalent to

Visitors may opt to ride a vehicle to the cave or to take the one-hour hike from the Sagada town center. The hike would give a chance for visitors to enjoy the rocky terrain covered with pine forests, one of the more beautiful sights in Sagada. The hike would lead the visitor from the town center, down to the central village of Dagdag and onto the village of Ambasing. The trail continues and after passing the village of Ambasing, a magnificent view of Sagada rice terraces can be viewed from the roadside.

.20. Currently, there are two options to explore Sumaging Cave. The first and less adventurous option is the spelunking activity limited to just the Big Cave. This activity would normally take two to three hours after entering the cave entrance. The second more adventurous option is the "Cave Connection". The Cave Connection covers both Sumaging Cave and nearby Lumiang Cave. This could take as much as five or six hours. The cave connection is recommended for more intrepid visitors. For both options, the use of a licensed guide is mandatory. In the past decade or so, Sagada guides have improved on providing guide services to visitors.

Cave

The entrance to Sumaging Cave is not visible from the road. It is actually hidden and one has to go down a long flight of carved steps to reach the entrance. At the entrance of the cave, guides would light petromax lamps. As Sumaging is a fully subterranean cave, Sagada guides have to make sure that ample light is available to explore the caves.

Visitors to Sumaging Cave are always enthralled at its natural and splendid beauty. Sagada guides would point out certain rock formations which have already been named - these include The Frog, The Pregnant Lady, the King's Curtain, The Cauliflower and many others. Glittering stalactites and stalagmites are shone upon by the light as one goes through the cave.

Indeed, a visit to the Sumaging Cave is a must-see for every Sagada visitor. The beauty of the cave is a representation of the over-all wonder of the town of Sagada - natural, fresh, sparkling and awesome.

How to Learn Spanish Slang and Secrets to Learning Spanish Vocabulary Words

Today we will talk about how to learn Spanish slang and some secrets to learning Spanish vocabulary words. The first word that I will give you isn't exactly a Latin American Spanish vocabulary slang word. It is a "Spanglish" word that I learned in New York City from Puerto Rican and Dominican friends. The word is "janguear."

esata card

Janguear - to hang out

Esa

Estamos jangueando en la esquina.
We are hanging out on the corner.

Me gusta janguear en esa dicoteca.
I like to hang-out in that club.

I don't expect you to ever use the verb "janguear." I just thought that it was an interesting word to know. And I also find it interesting how Spanish-speakers in the States will take a Spanish word and combine it with an English word and make a new word or a "Spanglish" word. By the way, in preparing this email I asked one of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy instructors from Mexico if she knew the meaning of "janguear" and she said that she never heard the word before. And as I expected, when I asked some friends here in Medellín, Colombia if they understood the meaning of "janguear," they also said that they have never heard the word before.

You should also know that if you are planning a trip to "la República Dominicana" don't expect anyone there to understand the verb "janguear," despite the fact that I just told you that I have heard my Dominican friends in Nueva York use the word. I suspect that my Dominican friends in Nueva York learned the word from Puerto Rican Spanish speakers in New York City. On the other hand, if you are planning a trip to Puerto Rico I can assure you that the "gente" (people) of Puerto Rico will know and may even use the verb "janguear."

Let me rephrase that. I can assure you that the "adolescentes" (young people) or "jovencitos" (young people) of Puerto Rico will know and may even use the verb "janguear." Why do I say that? Here in Medellín, Colombia, reggaeton music is very popular. And the singers or rappers of reggaeton music are usually Puerto Rican -- as opposed to Nuyoricans (New York City born Puerto Ricans), and in many of the reggaeton songs I have heard the recording artists use the word "janguear."

Keep in mind that since Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, as opposed to an independent Caribbean/Latin American country, such as Cuba or "la República Dominicana" the language there is going to be heavily influenced by English. And Spanglish words are going to be a lot more common. Despite the popularity of reggaetón music in Medellín, Colombia, my "amigos" here said that they are not familiar with the word "janguear."

Keep in mind that one secret to learning Spanish vocabulary words is to review the words that you learn.

History Of The ESP Guitar

The first ESP Guitar was made in Japan in 1976. The ESP Company (Electric Sound Products) actually started up a year earlier but only provided guitar replacement parts at that time. ESP guitars and replacement parts continued to be sold exclusively in Japan for nearly a decade before moving into the U.S. market. In 1983 their replacement parts were made available in the U.S and in 1984 their guitars made their American appearance.

esata cable

In 1984/85 ESP guitars were attracting some attention from great guitarists such as Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones), Vernon Reid (Living Colour) and Bruce Kulick (Kiss).

Esa

The next big name to discover ESP guitars was George Lynch (Dokken) while shopping for guitar parts when he was touring in Japan. When George found out that ESP made custom guitars, the model "Kamikaze" was made for him. The Kamikaze was the first signature model to be made.

More musicians began to take notice of ESP and started playing their guitars in the late 80's. Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield of Metallica were two of the bigger names.

Speaking of James Hetfield, an ESP guitar that he used when Metallica first started to become popular, got the ESP Company into some legal trouble. The guitar he used, known as the EXP, was a replica of the Gibson Explorer. Even though companies have been selling replicas of their guitars for years, Gibson decided to sue ESP. The quality of the EXP was so good that people were buying them up and this was allegedly cutting into the sales of Gibson's own guitars. ESP lost the lawsuit and changed their design.

In 2002, ESP sales started to grow at a rapid rate making them one of the fastest growing companies at that time. This increase in sales was directly connected to Fender buying out Jackson Guitars. Jackson was the company that ESP had competed with in the 80's and 90's.

With the buyout of Jackson, many of the high profile guitarists jumped ship and went over to ESP. Guitarists like Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), found it natural to move over to ESP products because of the high quality and similar designs.

The ESP guitar is still very popular today. At the 2008 Winter NAMM show, ESP introduced over 50 new guitar and bass models. They also have a great selection of high profile guitar players on their roster including James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom), Wayne Static (Static-X), Will Adler (Lamb of God), George Lynch, Ron Wood and newest member Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi). With the great quality of guitars ESP produces, they sure look like they are going to be around for many years to come.

Test Your Financial Fitness

I have been reading The Total Money Make Over by Dave Ramsey ISBN-13: 978-0-752-8908-1, and thought it would be interesting to set up a self test for your financial fitness. See where you score.

esata hub

Do you have a ,000.00 emergency fund? Is this money available for the small emergencies that come up, in other words is it in cash where you can get to it in a hurry? After you dip into this cash reserve do you replace it before spending money on any other luxury item?
If you can answer yes to all of these questions, give yourself 14 points. If you answered no to any of the above, you have totally failed the test and it might be wise to read The Total Money Make Over.

Esa

Do you have any debt other than your home? I mean any debt, what about your credit cards, is there a running balance? If you do not pay the entire balance each month, then you have debt. If you owe money on a car, then you have debt. If you have a second mortgage or a home equity loan balance, then you have debt. If you have a school loan, then you have debt. If you owe a friend money, then you have debt. We will give you a slight break here, if you have a mortgage on rental property you can pass to the next test question.
If you have any debt other than you home's first mortgage then you have failed the test with a score of only 14. If you are debt free then give your self another 14 points.

Do you have a fully funded emergency fund that covers three to six months of expenses? What would it take for you to live three to six months if you lost you income? This does not count the ,000 emergency cash fund, this will usually range from ,000 to ,000.
Give yourself 5 points if you have at least three months of fully funded emergency fund.
Give yourself 3 points for each month over the minimum of three months that you could meet expenses if you lost your job. If you cannot afford to be without income for more than three months, then your score for this test is 28. Not too good and I would guess that most people will not even score this high. You need to take a hard look at your financial fitness.

However, if you have made it this far with a score of at least 33 and have not bought a home, this would be a good time to make the best investment you will ever make, just remember to keep the payments down to 25 to 30% of your monthly income.

Are you investing 15 percent of your income in retirement?
If you can answer yes and have no debt except for a house payment, a ,000 emergency fund, three to six months worth of expenses in savings, then give your self another 14 points. You should expect 12% return on your investments in growth-stock mutual funds.

Are you saving for you children's college through an Educational Savings Account (ESA) earning an average of 12%? And are you investing the maximum of ,000 a year per child?
If your child is over the age of eight when you start this fund, you will have to set aside more to reach your goal.
If you have children and can answer yes to the above questions, then give yourself another 14 points.
If you have no children and are not saving for college, then you are ok but don't give yourself any points.

Have you paid off your home mortgage and any mortgages on rental property that you may own?
If you can answer this question, then give your self another 14 points.

Are you now debt free, investing, having fun and giving to others?
If this is true, then give yourself another 14 points. When your money is making more than your expenses, you are finically independent. You should have been doing all three from the start, having fun, investing and giving.

Where did you score, if you have children and passed all the test questions then you should have scored a 89 or better. Dave Ramsey covers much more in his book, and I would strongly recommend it for every couple. The steps are hard and take commitment, but the returns are well worth it.

He Died After Chemotherapy And A Shot of Blood-Count-Boosting (Epoetin) Injection

Some years ago, one young man came to see me for his cancer. He was prescribed some herbs which he did not take. He preferred to go for chemotherapy instead. Not too long after that his wife came to my house in the middle of the night and asked for help. She told me that after chemotherapy, her husband's red blood counts dropped drastically. The doctor gave him an injection to boost up the blood counts. He suffered a blood clot in his thigh and had to undergo an emergency operation. She wanted me to help him with the herbs. But it was not to be, her husband died soon afterwards.

esata hub

In the early days of my practice, I did not document patients who came to see me. So, I only have vague recollection of some outstanding cases. This was one outstanding case that I remember, involving a young professional. When he had cancer, I could see the agony and hopelessness in the face of his young wife.

Esa

This case would not have resurface and find itself in print if not for some articles I have just read in the net about erythropoiesis stimulating agents (ESAs). ESA is commonly used to treat anemia, i.e., a lower than normal number of red blood cells. Examples of such drugs are Procrit, Epogen and Aranesp. These are synthetic, genetically engineered version of a natural glycoprotein known as erythroprotein. The US-FDA had approved the use of ESAs to treat anemia in patients with chronic kidney failure and in patients with cancer after chemotherapy had lowered their blood counts. To patients in Malaysia, each injection cost a good tidy sum of money.

According to Alison Tonka, associate editor of the British Medical Journal (BMJ) "thousands of patients worldwide rely on synthetic ESAs to alleviate the anemia that accompanies chronic renal disease and chemotherapy for cancer." Two news articles in the BMJ had these titles: "Safety of anemia drug erythopoitin is to be reviewed" and "FDA calls for warning on anaemia drugs amid reports of incentives to doctors." The main message from these articles is that more patients treated with ESAs died from the treatment rather than live longer or are helped. That is to say, ESAs increase the risk of death. Studies also showed that at a dose higher than indicated ESAs could cause increased risk of blood clots, stroke and heart attack. In patients with head and neck cancer, higher doses of ESAs promoted tumour growth.

In November 2006, February and March 2007, the US-FDA put out safety alerts informing the public about this safety concerns. From the net, I learn the following:

1. ESAs can cause serious and life-threatening side effects.

2. A greater number of deaths occurred in patients treated with these blood-count-boosting injections than in patients who did not receive chemotherapy.

3. ESAs cause increased rate of tumour growth in patients who had radiation therapy for their head and neck cancers and chemotherapy for their metastatic breast cancer.

4. ESAs cause higher chance of death and increased number of blood clots, strokes, heart failure and heart attacks in patients with chronic kidney failure.

All users of this blood-count-boosting drugs need to be told that they are at increased risk of death as well as serious cardiovascular complications including stroke, heart attack, blood clots to the heart, lungs, brain and major blood vessels. Those with chronic kidney failure given ESAs may suffer from seizures and hypertensive encephalopathy, i.e., swelling of the brain caused by very high blood pressure.

I now know why this young man met his premature death after chemotherapy plus a shot of erythropoiesis stimulating agent (ESA) that the doctor gave him. Goethe, a German philosopher once wrote: "There is nothing more frightening than active ignorance."

How to Personalize a Man Cave With Neon Signs

A man cave is not only a place to relax, it also is a reflection of your personal tastes. Whether it is in a garage, attic, spare room or even a basement, your man cave can show who you are and one way to do this is by displaying neon signs. The following will help you in your search for the perfect neon light.

cavewoman costume

The first place to start is by thinking about what you will be doing in your man cave.

Cave

You could be watching sports with your friends, playing darts or pool, or maybe just hanging out at your home bar. The possibilities are endless but rest assured, if you are doing an activity in your man cave, there is a neon sign to fit. For instance, you could put a neon sign in the shape of a pool ball rack next to the pool table to invite players. This will give it the feel of a real pool hall. Next scatter a few sports theme neon lights around to show your team loyalty. Most sports fans are fanatical about their teams and the man cave is the perfect place to display who you are rooting for. If you are into multiple sports, you could literally have a neon sign (or signs) for each one. When I am talking about sports, keep in mind that there are neon signs to represent all of the major professional sports but also signs available for most colleges as well. You could throw in a neon sign to show where you went to school. Loyalty to NCAA teams is huge and constantly growing. I could go on and on but I need to move on.

The next thing to think about is the theme of your man cave. This goes along with the activities mentioned above but you can expand on your theme. Themes could be a tiki bar, game room, English pub, Vegas/gambling theme, outdoor sports, or even a game room theme. Try to match your neon sign to the overall theme and you will quickly see how it shows your personal tastes. To give an example, there are neon signs that shine tiki hut, tiki bar, and tiki mask. Display one or more tiki signs with a Margaritaville neon light and you are on your way to projecting the feel of an island vacation. Escaping the world for a short period is what the man cave is all about. Using the example of the tiki bar theme, showing off your neon lights with other decorations will make you feel like you are on a Caribbean vacation. Use your instincts and try to feel what emotions your neon will produce. Remember, you are showcasing your unique likes and interests.

Another consideration is brand loyalty. People are extremely loyal to their brands and the man cave gives you the perfect place to boast about your favorite product. Put your brand up on the wall with neon and it will leave no doubt where your loyalty lies. Adult beverage brand neon signs are something that we all have come to take for granted. Nothing shows that an establishment is open like a neon sign so why not show your man cave is open? Brands can be flaunted using your favorite car, motorcycle, drink, or even motor oil neon sign. Pick a brand name neon sign that fits with your overall theme and you will be able to personalize your man cave to reflect who you are.

Like a personal profile you would fill out, your neon lights will tell all the visitors to your man space who you are and what you like.

My Third Most Favorite Cave, Tumbling Rock

Of all the caves that I have explored, Tumbling Rock Cave in Alabama ranks number 3 on my list of favorite caves. I have made many visits to this famous and Alabama's most visited cave. Tumbling Rock Cave is over 6 miles long and is mostly walking passage. At one time it was referred to as Blowing Cave. There is a stream that flows almost the entire length of the cave and forms a spring just below the entrance. This is the only cave that I know of that contains oil, the Asphalt Ooze occurs in Allens Alley near the back of the cave and covers the floor with a layer of dust hiding it. It drips from the ceiling and flows down a long slope to the floor of the cave. I keep a sample of it in a bottle labeled Alabama Crude!

cavenders

After a visit with the owners and paying our parking fee, we climb a short distance up the side of the mountain, open the gate and crawl through the three-foot high entrance. The first room, Ante Room, is large walking passage that crosses over the stream. Care must be taken from the start, if you eyes have not adjusted to the dark, you may step into the crevasse that crosses the path. This is a three foot wide drop that you step over. You then follow the stream to the Saltpeter Works. These are large Civil War vats which have long rotted away leaving the square mounds of dirt remaining.

Cave

My first visit was in July of 1971 with the Dogwood City Grotto and it was on this trip that I meet John Wallace, a long time friend and caving partner. John shared that when he was dating his wife, Youlanda, he spread out a table cloth near the Saltpeter Works, and set up a candle light dinner that he had carried into the cave.

A short distance from the Saltpeter Works we climb up out of the stream passage and into a large room with two large formations called the Elephants Feet. If you climb up to the top of one of the feet, near the ceiling one can enter a small crawl that goes up above the ceiling and over the stream passage into what is now called Vujade' Extension.

Continuing up stream we climb over the Wildcat Rockpile and pass the Little Hall of Mysteries. There is Formation Grotto off to the left and we have explored The Sewers to a 15-foot drop. We then returned to the stream and went through the Wind Tunnel to the Totem Grotto, Craters of the Moon. Chucks Music Box is in a side passage to the left and well worth the visit to view the tall then columns. At this point you need to be with someone who is familiar with the cave in order to locate the Hidden Door, if you miss the Hidden Door on the way back out of the cave one ends up in a dead end stream passage.

Just beyond the Hidden Door and just before entering the Great Hall of Mysteries, is the Kings Shower. When the upper passage to the Topless Dome and the lower passages were mapped it was found that there were only inches between the two. So a sledge hammer was used to make a short cut up to the Topless Dome. The stream from the Dome now runs down and drops through the hole creating the Kings Shower. Pulling up through this hole and going a short distance to the right brings you to the bottom of the Topless Dome.

The Dome is 396 feet high and was climbed by Don Davison and Cheryl Jones around 1979 over a two-year period. The climb is 555 feet long, which makes it the longest underground technical route in the United States. Read about Topless Dome Revisited in the October 1982 NSS News.

For a long time the Great Hall of Mysteries was the end of the cave. Now there are two passages to continue to the back of the cave. Both are challenging, I will describe the Blue Crawl first as it was the first to be discovered. Straight across the room, to the left of the Christmas Tree formation and up the mud slope, is Johnstons Junction, a short squeeze into the Emperors Room. Cross the Emperors Room and climb up in a crevice and into a 75-foot long round crawl that one must decide which arm goes first at the start. Because you cannot change positions again until you emerge out the far side of the Blue Crawl. When exiting the Blue Crawl it is a narrow ledge and in order to get your body out of the hole one has to extend out over the ledge. I have made the crawl one time, but never again. However I think that everyone should try it once.

Exiting the Blue Crawl and into the Inter Sanctum breakdown room and on the far side climb down and under the Surprise Waterfall into Allens Alley.

The second route that was discovered or I should say was dug open is the Suicide Passage. Back in the Emperors Room climb down and along the right side of the Christmas Tree formation to the stream level. Follow the sandy crawl along the left side of the stream until you can climb up into the rock pile. After several tight bends and climbs one enters Allens Alley. This is a shorter route and is usually preferred to the Blue Crawl.

Allens Alley is a nice long canyon passage with the stream flowing down below. About half way through one has to climb up near the ceiling and crawl through a two-foot restriction. It then opens back up again into a huge long room. Watch out for the Asphalt Ooze along the right side, which crosses the path.

The reward at the end is the Pillar of Fire, and it is well worth the climb up Mt. Olympus. This large bright red formation sets at the top of a mud mountain called Mt. Olympus. This is were most cavers stop after a four-hour trip in and another four hours to get out. If one wants to see the bitter end, Terry's Tiger Teeth, then just before climbing Mt. Olympus, go over to the right side of Allens Alley and look for the D-T passage. This is a tight break down crawl for about 300 feet. After emerging back into walking passage again in Grants Tomb, the stream is down and to the right, called Grants Pool. Terry's Tiger Teeth is on ahead to the left.

The cave continues, though the passage may not be discovered, more than the length of the known cave to a small cave called Timber Cave on the far side of the mountain. Dye tracing of the water entering Timber Cave was traced to Tumbling Rock Cave. If you are looking for a good eight hour wild cave trip, then I would recommend Tumbling Rock Cave.

Fettucine Ala Seafood

Italian pasta with simple or complex sauces is universal fare now-a-days. The variety of pasta shapes is numerous also; everything from bow-ties, little hats, manicotti, gnocchi, and sea shells to linguini, spaghetti, fettuccine, and paparadelle noodles. You can't pick up a magazine without seeing a pasta recipe with a new twist, they simply are everywhere.

alarm clock radio

Even before the Romans, Italy grew the durum wheat for pasta. The Romans baked their pasta rather like lasagna. However, it was some time before Italians boiled pasta. Marco Polo is responsible for re-introducing pasta to Italy with Chinese noodles. The fact is Italians were already making pasta in Palermo when Marco Polo returned from China. For a more complete history of Italian pasta and tomato sauce, go to http://lifeinitaly.com/food/pasta-history.asp

Ala

This quick and easy pasta sauce is ready in the time it takes to boil the water and cook the pasta to al dente. The mix of seafood includes squid, crab, shrimp, mussels and steamer clams. Mixed seafood is available in most supermarket freezers or at your local fish monger. This sauce also works with chopped marlin, swordfish, halibut, or tuna. Get creative and add one of your favorite ingredients... perhaps capers, sweet peas, ramps, mushrooms, or cardoons.

Ingredients: - makes 4 servings
o 1 pound fettuccine noodles
o 1 Tbsp salt
o 1 pound mixed seafood
o 2 Tbsp butter
o 4 scallions, chopped tops and bulbs
o 1 Tbsp garlic, minced (about 4 cloves)
o 1 shallot, minced
o ½ cup dry white wine
o 2 Tbsp butter
o 1 cups cream
o 1 sprig tarragon, chopped or ½ tsp dried tarragon
o Pinch of marjoram or oregano
o Couple dashes of Tabasco sauce
o Sea salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste
o Italian flat-leaf parsley, chopped

Method:
1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil with 1 Tbsp salt.
2. Cook pasta in boiling water until it is al dente.
3. Drain and hold.
4. In a skillet over medium high heat, melt the butter until it froths. Add the scallions, garlic, shallots, and seafood. Sauté until aromatic and the shrimp are pink, about 3 minutes. The seafood will be slightly undercooked at this point.
5. Add wine, stirring from the bottom of the skillet. Reduce wine to half, about 6 minutes.
6. Push seafood to the side of the skillet, add 2 Tbsp of butter and swirl gently. Slowly add cream, whisking gently so that the cream thickens.
7. Add tarragon, marjoram, salt and pepper, and Tabasco sauce. Stir seafood and sauce together to combine.
8. Plate the fettuccine, pour the sauce over, and garnish with the parsley.

Substation Maintenance

In the heat of summer, many manufacturers worry about the lifeblood of their facility and manufacturing equipment - the electrical system. Without it, production grinds to halt, often at a cost of thousands of dollars per hour for substation failure. Heat has a significant impact on electrical components: transformers, switchboards, even cabling. At this time of year, your electrical distribution network is working its hardest. Electrical substation failures occur more frequently during summer months than any other time of year - typically when you least expect - which results in the need for costly emergency electrical services due to a power outage.

esata flash drive

In the summer months, air conditioning use increases and local utilities realize increases in demand followed by voltage drops. As a result, the transformer and any outdoor equipment begin to operate at higher temperatures. If any weakness exists or if there are loose connections, you may have a thermal breakdown that could result in not just a loss of power, but a major electrical substation failure or fire.

Esa

The increased cost of fuel oil and all precious metals has caused many manufacturers of electrical equipment to inventory less than ever before, and in some cases, major electrical items needed for emergency electrical services and repair such as power transformers and high voltage switchgear are made-to-order with lead times between 20 and 50 weeks. So, if a major component fails, the equipment for repair may be many months away, resulting in significant costs for running on generator power or other alternatives while awaiting delivery. Regular substation maintenance can limit exposure to this type of risk by preventing or identifying potential issues before problems occur.

The National Electrical Testing Association (NETA) and IEEE both recommend annual electrical maintenance of the main system components in all manufacturing facilities. Many insurance companies that offer liability insurance and 'loss of use' coverage expect that the electrical system supplying the major manufacturing equipment be inspected, tested and maintained in order for insurance coverage to be valid. Your insurance company has strict criteria governing both the testing and electrical maintenance procedures.

Don't find out about the condition of the electrical equipment in your facility when you are facing substation failure and costly repairs and emergency electrical services: Schedule a maintenance check and have your systems inspected before problems like substation failure arise - ask your service representative for details!

Zero Tolerance: Electrical Hazards at Construction Sites

The Ministry of Labour continues with their "Zero Tolerance" campaign and most recently threw the spotlight on electrical hazards at construction sites. During July, workplace health and safety inspectors from the Ontario Ministry of Labour focused on maintaining worker safety by ensuring adequate safety programs are in place and that only authorized workers are performing electrical maintenance, electrical installations and machinery rewiring. If your workplace and/or workers don't know and follow the regulations and requirements set out by the Ministry of Labour, you may run the risk of fines or tickets. Something as simple as not having your training cards with you could result in a ticket.

Since 1998, construction activities have been among the primary causes of the increase in electricity-related injuries - three of the 15 fatalities in Ontario's construction sector in 2007 were related to electrical hazards. Don't be a statistic; protect your workplace and your workers from electricity-related injuries and emergency electrical services:

1. Get up-to-date with the new CSA Z462 Standard, Electrical Safety in the Workplace
2. Remain current with ECRA/ESA provincial licensing
3. Educate employees on the Occupational Health and Safety Act
4. Facilitate Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training
5. Develop a system to recognize or reward employees and teams that work safely and remain injury/accident free

If you have questions or concerns about workplace safety as it relates to electrical maintenance, electrical installations and machinery rewiring and are looking for guidance, contact your service representative today to discuss your options or learn about employee training.

Two Basic Man Cave Layout Strategies

Don't get overwhelmed if you're building your Man Cave for the first time from scratch! Here are a couple basic concepts you should consider before you tackle this kind of project. Below, you'll find two basic strategies that will help you in planning out the basic layout for your Man Cave.

cavenders boots

The Seating Strategy
Where people will sit in your Man Cave will mostly be determined by where the TV is going to go, but sometimes it difficult to find just the right place to put it. One source of frustration when choosing TV placement is feeling trapped in putting the TV wherever the cable comes out of the wall. If you can find a better wall to put the TV, then DO IT! You don't have any excuses. Buying some extra coaxial cable and extension cords won't break the bank and, at the end of the day, you'll love having the flexibility of putting the set anywhere you choose. If you're planning on having lots of people over to watch the game, it's best if you can set the TV up in a corner that faces two interior walls (even better if the two walls are lined with a couch on each). Unfortunately, putting the TV a corner can also take up a lot of space in the room. So, depending on how large the room is, you might want to forgo the corner and opt for a wall. Additionally, you might want to consider getting some comfortable chairs that can be easily moved around to an optimal viewing position during game time and then either taken out of the room or moved back to a more out-of-the-way area later. In either case, you'll want to keep a path to the bathroom and beverages clear of all obstacles.

Cave

The Beverage Strategy
Your beverage strategy should mainly consist of two themes: quick access and low temperature. Essentially, you want to be able to grab a drink in the least amount of time possible (because commercial breaks can be painfully short when you're also trying to squeeze in a quick run to the bathroom), and you'll want that drink to be ice-cold. Unfortunately, modern science has yet to provide us with robots to do our bidding, so you'll either have to leave your Man Cave and go all the way out to the kitchen, or you could employ some of the following strategies. By far the easiest way to keep cold drinks at hand is to have a cooler filled with ice right next to your seat. If that seems too much like roughing it, you can always pick up a mini fridge (you can usually find great deals in a college town at the end of the term) or you could go all out and install a home bar. Whatever you decide, just keep in mind how long it will take to get the beverage and if it will cause you to look away from the game at any point.

I hope these easy to learn strategies help you in determining the layout for your own Man Cave and give you some inspiration to get started if you have yet to try! You'll be surprised how liberating it is to have an entire room dedicated to your favorite hobby.

Alpha Lipoic Acid Benefits - Know the Trick it Does For Weight Loss

Alpha lipoic acid benefits are numerous. This is a kind of fatty acid (in short known as ALA) that can dissolve both in water and fat. One of its benefits in terms of weight loss is worth mentioning.

aladdin

If any of you believe that fat only produces fat, you are wrong. There are so many biological reactions in our body that will defy many logic's but they are facts. One of the facts is sugar becoming fat. Read this story.

Ala

After every meal we take, the tissues in our body will rapidly grab and eat the glucose from the blood when the blood passes through. The hormone insulin is responsible for this. In this way, the sugar in the blood is maintained at appropriate level. In addition, insulin stops the liver from delivering any fat to the blood after the meal. If it is not stopped, it will become a kind of deposit like glucose in the blood. It should not stay for a long time in our blood.

If sugar level is increased in our blood, it means our body can not burn the excess sugar. Immediately insulin will be released to store the excess sugar. This will be in the form of glycogen. Since the storage of glycogen in our body is very small, the sugar will be stored in the form of saturated fat. Thus sugar becomes fat. Fat accumulation starts if unchecked.

You may now ask, what is the relationship between insulin, alpha lipoic acid benefits and weight loss? I can explain to you.

We have two problems in our hand. (1) Limited glycogen storage. (2) Accumulation of saturated fat. The solution lies in increasing the intake of glucose into the muscles. Since insulin is the only hormone that can do this and pancreas supplied whatever is possible, the body needs something that can mimic insulin to maximize glucose intake.

Now the alpha lipoic acid benefits come into picture. ALA is a perfect insulin mimic. When the glycogen storage is full and the insulin shuttles the excess sugar out to transform as fat, ALA will mimic insulin. In that process ALA increases glut-4 transporters which are insulin regulated glucose transporters. When the transporters are increased, the amount of glucose injected into the muscle is increased and the fat accumulation is reduced.

ALA can enhance the insulin sensitivity also. It will improve body's ability to add lean- mass and reduce the fat. These are good beginning for weight loss.

ALA is available in many of the meat products and vegetables. It is slightly more present in lever, kidney, broccoli, spinach etc. One can go in for natural supplement to get the alpha lipoic acid benefits. Since dietary source for the supplement is very expensive, mostly we will find only synthetic supplements in the market. Even though it is expensive, it is strongly recommended that we should go in for natural nutrition supplement to avoid any side effects. You should visit my website where you can find a trusted manufacturer who can offer 100% natural supplement that includes this nutrition also.

ALA, EPA, and DHA Omega3s - Which Ones Are Best For Your Health?

Between ALA, EPA, and DHA omega-3 fatty acids, do you know which ones are best for your health? This article discusses the differences between these fatty acids and which ones you want to consume the most of.

aladdin

ALA, EPA, and DHA are all beneficial to your health, but they all do not provide the same benefits.

Ala

The most complex of the three is DHA, or docosahexaenoic acid. It consists of 22 carbon chain bonds and 6 double bonds. Because it's the most complex, this omega-3 is also the most versatile.

EPA omega-3, or eicosapentaenoic acid, has 20 carbon chain bonds and 5 double bonds. Although not as complex as DHA, it still is rather versatile.

ALA omega-3, or alpha-linolenic acid, has 18 carbon chain bonds and three double bonds. Out of the three, it is certainly the least versatile.

Now, let me explain what I mean by versatile when talking about ALA, EPA, and DHA omega-3...

When your body needs more of a certain omega-3, other forms can be converted to it. This is done by adding or removing carbon bonds.

Since DHA omega-3 is so complex, all it has to do is drop some carbon bonds to convert into EPA or ALA if need be. EPA can drops a few bonds as well to make ALA too, but has to add a few to make DHA. But ALA has to add carbon bonds to make both EPA and DHA.

Therefore, you want to make sure that you consume more DHA than EPA and ALA. And if need be, your body can convert DHA into one of the other forms.

The best source of DHA and EPA omega-3 is deep, cold water fish like tuna, salmon, mackerel, hoki, and sardines. ALA is only found in plant-based sources like fruits and veggies, oils, nuts, etc.

Shockingly, the average person only consumes about one-fifth of the amount of DHA and EPA they should on a daily basis. In fact, studies are showing that this may be a big reason why so many people are developing behavioral problems like anxiety, depression, ADD, ADHD, and even Alzheimer's disease.

The reason why so many people don't consume enough DHA and EPA is probably because you'd have to eat fish multiple times a day to consume the recommended amount.

But thankfully, there's a simple solution to this problem: Taking a quality DHA and EPA fish oil supplement!

Does Alpha Lipoic Acid Help Type 1 Or Type 2 Diabetes?

Nature is really very clever; it has devised a great system for counteracting oxidative damage in your body ... antioxidants. They are compounds that give out electrons to stabilize and neutralize free radicals. Certain substances which are produced in your body are able to combine with specific nutrients found in food and supplements, and work in synergy with each other to keep your body in tip-top shape.

alan wake

Alpha-lipoic acid, abbreviated as ALA and also known as thioctic acid, is one of those powerful supplements. ALA is proven to be beneficial in type 1 and type 2 diabetes, effectively slowing down the progression of:

Ala

neuropathy nephropathy retinopathy

and improves the sensitivity of your tissues to insulin. In fact ALA has been approved for the prevention and treatment of diabetic neuropathy in Germany for almost thirty years.

The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has published numerous studies done by different researchers worldwide. These studies concluded that ALA has positive effects in preventing complications brought on by consistently high blood sugar levels.

A study carried out by researchers at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, consisted of 84 diabetic patients who were given alpha-lipoic acid 600 mg twice daily for 18 months. After that period, 35 people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes were found to have a slower progression of their diabetes as opposed to 49 patients that served as the control group. Also, they discovered less protein was excreted in their urine, which means that nephropathy was somehow halted.

These scientifically proven findings are good news! How does alpha-lipoic acid work? Of course the magical action of ALA is it's anti-oxidant properties. As an anti-oxidant:

it counteracts the damage done to nerve cells, particularly the oxidative stress brought about by long term high blood sugar levels it offers impressive protection against glycation and aging induced damage to your heart, blood vessels, kidneys and nerves it also has the ability to improve blood flow which helps in the battle against neuropathy and other complications associated with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes

A person in good health is often recommended a dose as low as 10-50 mg of ALA once daily, taken an hour or two before meals. Side effects for a higher dose may cause abnormal heart rhythms. However, the Linus Pauling Institute recommends 200-400 mg.

If you are thinking about taking alpha-lipoic acid for your diabetic complications, check with your health care practitioner as the effect of ALA may rule out the need for additional anti-diabetic medications ... if you are taking insulin injections your dose may need to be decreased. No doubt your health care practitioner will also advise you to monitor your blood sugar levels when taking any supplements that help reduce your blood sugars, including alpha-lipoic acid.

Kentucky - Mammoth Cave National Park

If you thought Carlsbad Caves were fascinating, you will find the Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky is truly awe inspiring. The Mammoth caves are the longest cave system in the world and needless to say are the most prominent feature of the park.

cave

The caves are known for their limestone and sandstone formations. The park service organizes several guided tours of different parts of the caves. Most of these tours are moderately challenging in nature, thanks to the rough terrain of the caves. The most popular tours are the ones that take visitors to the cave's most well known features- Fat man's misery and Frozen Niagara. In case you are in a more adventurous mood, you can take 'wild tours' to the caves' relatively unexplored areas.

Cave

Apart from the caves, the park has several other attractions as well. These include-

The Big Woods- These woods offer a glimpse of the old Kentucky forests.

The Green River Bluffs- As the name suggests, the bluff promises amazing views of the Green River valley.

River Styx Spring-The spring flows from the cave and merges into the Green River.

Engine No.4- This is the workhouse of the old Mammoth Cave railroad.

The Cedar Sink- This is a stunning downhill trail adorned with vividly colored wildflowers (in springs), sparkling streams, that leads into a huge sinkhole.

The Green and Nolin Rivers that flow through the park, promise excellent recreation opportunities like kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming and riverside camping. The rivers' slow current, dramatic bluffs, lush green banks, sandbars, little islands and subsurface springs make canoeing and kayaking extremely pleasant. As you paddle lazily through these gorgeous rivers you may even be able to catch glimpses of the park's varied wildlife. To fish within the park's premises you do not need a state fishing license. Apart from the two rivers you can also go fishing at the Sloan's Crossing Pond and the First Creek Lake.

If you want to camp on the flood plains you will need to obtain a free back-country use permit. The park also offers a designated camping area along with the river bank-Houchins Ferry Campground. This ground is fairly well equipped and works on a first come first sever basis only. Apart from Houchins Ferry Campground the park has two more well equipped designated camping areas-The Mammoth Cave and The Maple Springs campgrounds.

With so much on offer, you will definitely make some wonderful memories on your Mammoth cave vacation!

Learn Conversational Spanish - Key Cool Phrases

Stepping out of the typical Spanish taught in conventional Spanish courses is something most students of Spanish are keen to perform as quickly as they can. We're going to make it easier to learn conversational Spanish by bringing a realistic classy finesse to your Spanish toolkit with these brilliant Spanish phrases to help you leave a favorable impression with the locals without a doubt.

esata to usb

Okay, most conversations kick off with a greeting and many students of Spanish will mostly rely on Spanish expressions such as:

Esa

¿Cómo está/s?, or ¿Qué tal? - How are you?

These are all right needless to say, but to make your greetings more polished, say these instead:

¿Cómo estamos? - How are we? Especially common!

¿Qué te cuentas? - How you doing?

¿Cómo va? - How's it going?

Even though these are in fact saying a similar thing as the first two, these informal expressions are more "warm" and realistic.

Here's a couple of slick Spanish phrases one might say to respond instead of the colorless "bien", "muy bien" or "todo bien".

Más o menos - More or less (You may in addition leave out the "s" at the
end and say "má o meno" so that you appear more "Spanishy"!)

Sin novedades - Nothing much taking place

Estoy contento/a con la vida - I'm happy with life

Vale, occasionally when you're talking in Spanish, you just cannot think of a word to explain something. This is certain to ensue as you learn conversational Spanish, it happens to me frequently and the following three cracking phrases will be particularly helpful:

Lo tenga en la punta de la lengua - It's on the end of my tongue

¿Cómo se llama esa cosa? - What's that thing called?

¿Cómo se llama ese chisme? - What's that gizmo called?

More desirable than saying gringo give-aways like ¿Qué significa? Without a doubt!

Saying goodbye to somebody is one more opportunity to make a winning impact by bidding farewell precisely as the locals do. Vale, as an alternative to employing regular Spanish expressions for instance: "Hasta pronto", "hasta luego" and "hasta la próxima", check out these:

Hasta ahora

Hasta otra

Hasta más ver

Hasta otra and hasta ahora are especially used often here in Catalunya, I'll come across all three each day, and you're going to hear each of them wherever you're traveling in Spain.

Finally, one more really excellent streetwise Spanish expression to introduce to your growing Spanish. Whenever you're saying good night (buenas noches) to someone add-on:

Que descanses - Rest well

You'll find it rarely said by non-native speakers and in addition to bringing-in a polished edge to your Spanish, it is going to earn you a great deal of kudos!

You now have a good range of very cool expressions to help you learn conversational Spanish by employing authentic expressions frequently used by native Spanish speakers. Bring them into your vocabulary and you will be a cut above from those cheeky gringos!

Hasta otra.

The Loop in Pettyjohn Cave

When taking someone new to Pettyjohn Cave in north Georgia, I enjoy taking them on the Loop tour. It is great because the only part of the cave that the route crossed twice is about 250 feet of cave near the entrance. The round trip will take about four hours and involve tight squeezes, moderate climbs and some mud, but not the real mud. If the group really wants a challenge, add in the Flat Room and the Z-bends. Side trips can also be made to the Over 'N Under Room or the Echo Room for an even longer trip.

caveman club

The Loop route consists of the Pancake Squeeze or Z-Bends, choose one or split the group up with half going through each. (Smaller cavers take the Z-Bends). Next is the Raccoon room, The Freeway, and then the Bridge Room. Leaving the Bridge Room, crawl into the Mason - Dixon Passage and onto the Volcano Room, then back to the Main Entrance Room.

Cave

As one slides down into the entrance of Pettyjohn, you cannot help but notice the smooth weathered rock slide that thousands of cavers have slid down before. If it is raining or wet muddy cavers exited just before your party does, the last few feet of the cave can be quite challenging and it will require most of your climbing skills just to exit the cave. A quick turn to the left and down then back to the right and the cave opens up into a huge cavern. Until your eyes adjust to the dark take care climbing down into the large Entrance Room. The floor may be slippery, so while your eyes adjust, try to take in the large formations on each side of the room. The room is about 30 feet high and 20 feet wide. About 200 feet into the cave is the first junction room and a climb.

Down through the floor in the first junction room is the route to the Signature Room, a good trip for first time cavers, with plenty of good sticky mud. The well-worn path up the rock to the left is difficult to climb, but easy to come down on the way out. There is a sloping rock in the center of the passage that will have a distinct crack for a foot step followed by another sloping rock with one small worn formation in the center that provides another foot step to the top of the climb. A few more steps and you are looking down a steep climb down with a large overhanging boulder on the right and the vertical wall on the left.

Slowly work your way down along the right side under the overhang to the bottom of the second junction room. This is where we start the Loop route and it is also the most traveled route to the large water fall at the lower level. There will be two holes at the bottom of the second junction room. The most obvious one is a drop that I would not recommend. After checking it out turn back away from the left wall and climb down through the breakdown, feet first, until you are under the hole. You can then see that there are no foot or hand holds to use if you came through the first hole.

Continue to climb down under the left wall of the Entrance Room, the cave will open up sloping steeply away from the Main Entrance Room. This is maybe the most confusing area on our tour. On a recent trip I spent almost an hour here trying to find the way on. I keep forgetting that there is another level to descend before climbing up again into a short water passage that leads to the Pancake Squeeze. Climb down to the right over a steep ledge until you can go no deeper. Then turn back to the left and look up for hidden passage over a small ledge. If the group chooses to take the Z-Bends, then stay low and continue in the same general direction but more to the right. Through a low wide room called the Flat Room. Near the end of this room look for a vertical crack to squeeze into and follow it until it opens up. This is the Z-Bends, the taller you are the harder it will be to get through.

For the group that went up over the ledge take the first side passage through water about 8 inches deep to the end. Duck under the ledge on the right and crawl into the Pancake Squeeze. The Pancake Squeeze is tricky, try and look ahead for the highest part and stay sightly to the left. If the squeeze starts to get tight try moving more to the left. You may have to remove your hard hat in order to get through. There is plenty of room on each side, so crawling is not a problem. When you drop off the Pancake and into standing room you should come into contact with the group that took the Z-Bends. Make sure that everyone is back together before continuing.

The next challenge will be a short drop of about 6 feet. If you are tall, you can just slide over feet first to the rock floor below. A better route is along the left side between a stalactite and the left wall, where you can hold on to the stalactite and lower yourself down to the floor. Continue along the right wall for another 50 feet and the left side will start to fall away. Stay high along the right side of the passage. If you climb down through a muddy hole on the left wall to the stream level, you will be on the tourist route to the water fall. Above this hole high on the right is the Raccoon Room. This is a dangerous climb and there may be a hand line there, but do not put your trust in it as it has been there for years. Climb up and over the ledge to the right.

Cross the Raccoon Room on the right side to the back of the room. Avoid the dead end crawl and stay to the right crawling over several mud walls until you reach a canyon junction. The large walking passage to the right will dead end after several turns. At the junction there will be a nice stalactite with water dripping into a pool with rim stone dams around the edge of the pool. Follow the canyon to the left and climb up into The Freeway. The Freeway is easy stoop walking passage with mud banks along each side. Cross through three rooms about 75 feet each until reaching the Bridge Room.

The Bridge Room is a good place to take a break, hang your legs over the edge and listen for the stream about 80 feet below. You could climb down here and go to the water fall. By crossing over the bridge, which is a narrow muddy arch over the canyon, and continuing through a long trunk passage access can be had to the back sections of Pettyjohn Cave. To continue the Loop, do not cross the bridge, but follow the narrow mud path along the right wall of the large canyon and stay at the same level near the ceiling.

At the end of the Bridge Room look for a small hole near the ceiling, this is the tight crawl into the Mason - Dixon Passage. If you climb down at this point and duck under a ledge, you can follow the lower stream passage to the sump at the lowest part of the cave, 235 feet below the entrance. Take off all your gear and shove it into the hole ahead of you, then squeeze through. After about 20 feet it will start to open and you can slide up into the passage on the left. This passage will start out about 4 foot high and then later open up into walking with one more tight crawl about half way through.

After about 500 feet there will be a large junction room. To the left is the Worm Tube leading to the Echo Room, the largest room in the cave. The Worm Tube is 200 feet of very tight passage and the climb up into the Echo Room is very tough. But it is well worth the effort to see the large room. To the right in the junction room and over a rock ledge and through a horizontal crack is a small room on the way to the Volcano Room. One more horizontal crack and then climb out and onto the edge of the Volcano Room.

The Volcano Room is shaped like a large funnel with steep sides and it leads down to the stream passage and the sump. For years the only way out was to climb up a vertical wall to a small window above the Volcano Room. We usually used a cable ladder when coming the other direction. I have free climbed the wall, but it is very exposed. In the late 80's someone dug a bypass crawl under and around the vertical climb up to the window. To enter this crawl from the Volcano Room side enter head first, pushing you gear. You work your way upwards twisting as you go. Try to stay on your back because you will have to bend up at the end and if you are not on your back you will not be able to bend up or turn over. If you are going the other way, you will want to go feet first and on your back. Going down hill is a little easer.

When getting out of the crawl and waiting for the others, it is worth the view to go up to the window and look out over the Volcano Room. There is not much room in the small vertical passage at the window so before it fills climb into the larger room above. Climb up into another room with walking passage to the left and a climb up on the right. The left passage dead ends. The climb up along a narrow ledge, first right then back to the left and up into a large formation room. At the far side of this room and over a lip is another room going down. Stay to the left and enter a crawl way before the room. The crawl way will have a very sharp turn to the right. The corner of the rock at the turn has been broken off to enable the extraction of a poor caver who fell from the window over the Volcano Room and broke a leg.

The easy crawl continues upward over a large breakdown to a short drop into a small room. When you are in this passage, you can talk to anyone who may be in the Autograph Room above. If they are at the bottom of the Autograph Room, they must be only a few feet from this passage. But no visual contact could be made. As you climb down into the small room, turn to the right and slide feet first into another small opening before going completely into the small room. Continue down this small vertical dry and dusty crack until it levels out.

If you continue to the end of this passage, there is a hard climb up that long legs are needed to reach the foot holds. Before you reach the end and shortly after it levels out there is a hole going up that leads to the passage above. The upper passage is about 4 foot high and wide. It will lead to the drop off at the end of the passage below. Continue up the passage, through a small window and to what looks like a dead end. It is possible to climb up through the breakdown and into the Main Entrance Room above but it is very tight and vertical. At the apparent dead end, lay down on your side and slide under the wall, it is about 12 inches high, but opens up. Crawl over a rock and into another small junction room.

To the left is a passage to the east stream passage and Crowell Domes. Up and to the right is a 20 foot climb up into the Main Entrance Room. One direction is the Autograph Room and the other direction is the second junction room where we climbed down. Climb down to the bottom of the room and then back up the left side. At the top stay to the right and slide down along the right wall into the first junction room. From here it is an easy walk to the entrance and a slippery climb out of the cave.
