Don't get overwhelmed if you're building your Man Cave for the first time from scratch! Here are a couple basic concepts you should consider before you tackle this kind of project. Below, you'll find two basic strategies that will help you in planning out the basic layout for your Man Cave.
The Seating Strategy
Where people will sit in your Man Cave will mostly be determined by where the TV is going to go, but sometimes it difficult to find just the right place to put it. One source of frustration when choosing TV placement is feeling trapped in putting the TV wherever the cable comes out of the wall. If you can find a better wall to put the TV, then DO IT! You don't have any excuses. Buying some extra coaxial cable and extension cords won't break the bank and, at the end of the day, you'll love having the flexibility of putting the set anywhere you choose. If you're planning on having lots of people over to watch the game, it's best if you can set the TV up in a corner that faces two interior walls (even better if the two walls are lined with a couch on each). Unfortunately, putting the TV a corner can also take up a lot of space in the room. So, depending on how large the room is, you might want to forgo the corner and opt for a wall. Additionally, you might want to consider getting some comfortable chairs that can be easily moved around to an optimal viewing position during game time and then either taken out of the room or moved back to a more out-of-the-way area later. In either case, you'll want to keep a path to the bathroom and beverages clear of all obstacles.

The Beverage Strategy
Your beverage strategy should mainly consist of two themes: quick access and low temperature. Essentially, you want to be able to grab a drink in the least amount of time possible (because commercial breaks can be painfully short when you're also trying to squeeze in a quick run to the bathroom), and you'll want that drink to be ice-cold. Unfortunately, modern science has yet to provide us with robots to do our bidding, so you'll either have to leave your Man Cave and go all the way out to the kitchen, or you could employ some of the following strategies. By far the easiest way to keep cold drinks at hand is to have a cooler filled with ice right next to your seat. If that seems too much like roughing it, you can always pick up a mini fridge (you can usually find great deals in a college town at the end of the term) or you could go all out and install a home bar. Whatever you decide, just keep in mind how long it will take to get the beverage and if it will cause you to look away from the game at any point.
I hope these easy to learn strategies help you in determining the layout for your own Man Cave and give you some inspiration to get started if you have yet to try! You'll be surprised how liberating it is to have an entire room dedicated to your favorite hobby.
